The Question: Can you get married to a man who isn’t physically present for the wedding?
I don’t know about you all but I’ve witnessed a good number of Cameroonian traditional weddings where the groom had to be represented by his father or older brother because he was in another country. This phenomenon is quite common among today’s youth and as funny as some of you may find it, it has served as a solution to others.
This conversation could go in many directions. We could talk about the gender bias gap it creates between men and women, we could talk about the post-wedding accommodation of the bride, we could even talk about whether it’s an acceptable standard for traditional weddings or not. But to save time, and to avoid stepping on any proverbial toes, let’s talk about what you think.
Personally, I can’t seem to pick a side. We honestly can’t know what we’d do in a certain situation until we’re faced with that situation. However, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Is it acceptable? Is it appropriate? Should we all mind our businesses and wait for our own traditional weddings? Sell me your opinion in the comment section. Tell us what you think and why you think it. One can’t afford to be indifferent about anything in this generation. Drop a comment!
